At Mock, Schwabe, Waldo, Elder, Reeves & Bryant, we develop and implement estate planning strategies tailored to each family’s unique situation. We work with you and your other professional advisors, including accountants, insurance agents, and financial advisors, to provide a coordinated approach to managing your family’s assets, preserving wealth, meeting your wealth transfer objectives, protecting your assets from creditors, and minimizing transfer taxes. We also use charitable planning techniques to both reduce our clients' tax liabilities and carry out their philanthropic objectives. After an initial estate plan has been drafted, we meet periodically with our clients to monitor and update their estate plans based upon changes in the law, changes in the client’s estate, and changes in the client’s family. We also advise individual and institutional trustees in their performance of fiduciary duties.
Our firm represented the taxpayer in Estate of Leder v. Commissioner, 893 F.2d 237 (10th Cir. 1989), aff’g 89 T.C. 235 (1987). In Leder, the Tax Court and Tenth Circuit rendered landmark decisions in the estate tax area, effectively reversing decades of prior case law. The decision has had a far-reaching national impact, opening up an effective estate planning tool while minimizing the estate tax burden for taxpayers.
